Continuing on from my previous post from last July MY CROSSDRESSING RITUAL where I went through the mechanics of building Micki. The next step before taking Micki Finn public is what to wear which is a far more in depth process than many may think. In the short term for the nights I am going out its a matter of where I am going as in elegant, dressy or business casual. That process is made more simple by the shopping philosophy I use during my 365 day a year shopping cycle. Not necessarily buying mind you but always looking and prepared to pull the trigger if I find the right items like for last years TGR.
My shopping philosophy is to stay with the classic tailored conservative looks that are always in style albeit not the rage. My hemlines are at or just a smidgen above the knee, tops are never low cut and without cleavage, and I prefer long sleeves. The advantage to this philosophy is I don’t stand out, I don’t draw unwanted attention, I don’t offend anyone and I get to dress the way I enjoy out in public. To my way of thinking women I encounter have either dressed in a similar fashion themselves or know someone who does so it is not objectionable. My strategy is nobody will pay any attention to my hemline but they most likely would my cleavage and possibly misunderstand the intention behind it. The reason for the long sleeves is to avoid a contrast between the dress or top and the skin of the arms. A black dress contrasted against light skinned arms draws peoples eyes to the arms and makes them seem larger in most cases than they really are. Black matching sleeves blend with the dress especially when resting at the side. Men are never a consideration for me as they keep their distance for the most part. I think the fact that I am bigger than half of them plays a role along with my voice if they get close enough. I am not saying the look has to be boring just classy which is what I have in mind no matter what I am shopping for.
So now with MY CROSSDRESSING RITUAL complete and my suitcases unpacked and outfits laid out its time to get dressed. The outfit I picked for dinner at Smith and Wollensky at the Venetian Hotel on a Las Vegas Friday night was more of a business casual look. Still overdressed for Las Vegas these days but somebody has to show these young women how to dress.

I chose a much more casual outfit for this night because we were in Long Beach just a couple of blocks from the beach and the place we were going was much more laid back. Definitely better dressed than any of the ladies there but they love us and figure we are the entertainment, which I have to agree with. I have been there so many times in heels and a skirt if I showed up in jeans they would think the airline lost my luggage.

This last outfit is more over the top and when I saw it knew exactly where I was going to wear it so bought it immediately. TG Rocktober was just a few months away and Thursday night there was a dinner planned at Bistecca Steakhouse in the hotel and you were encouraged to glam it up. So many people wanted to go that they ended up moving it upstairs to a much larger room. I did not want to be restricted by a formal gown so the jacket skirt combo was a great alternative. I will definitely wear a gown this year though if they follow the same format for Thursday night.

The picture does not really do the jacket justice because it is covered in sequins which are hard to see possibly a filter on the camera or something. I love the jacket but it is not conservative so I will only wear it to certain places where I feel comfortable. I had no reservations about wearing it at TG Rocktober because I know the Tuscany Suites Hotel where they had the event. I have stayed there many times by myself and know some of the staff there so I feel welcome. There were also about 150 TG oriented people all over the place and my ensemble was tame by comparison to some I saw. Wardrobe choices get pretty crazy at some TG events so mine are more like wall paper in the hall.
There is nothing wrong with the zebra jacket it is just a bit too festive for most outings based on my philosophy. It is also a no,no in my fashion guidance handbook because the lighter color on top makes me look bigger. Fortunately my handbook has an IDC (I DON’T CARE) section so I issued myself a WANNA permit. A WANNA permit is when you know its not correct but WANNA do it anyway. Sometimes we all just have to issue ourselves a WANNA permit because its how it makes us feel and not how we look.
