The term Crossdresser comfort covers a wide spectrum of items, but this post deals with the physical comfort as in hot or cold. August isn’t a time most people think about warm clothing but ideas pop into my head without regard for the current weather. The inspiration for this post comes from the wayback storage locker in my mind in the San Francisco section. In the early 2000’s I bought a heavy coat for a January trip there which, I only wore one night because it was too heavy and hot. It was a Crossdresser comfort assumption that I made based on the fog and wet January nights I was concerned about.
It turns out that while cooler January nights are not foggy as a rule. After sharing the situation with my wife, she suggested a shawl would make more sense. Lightweight, warm, versatile as you can easily switch from around your shoulders to draped around your neck. You can also drape it over your arm or through the handles of your purse. They are much easier to keep track of because they are smaller and less bulky than a coat.
Unfortunately, I discovered the purse handle trick after leaving one in a cab in the pre-UBER days and the driver did not turn it in. For years my BFF Ashley and I used to confuse people by telling them we were going Alpaca hunting in San Francisco which sounded very manly. There was some truth in it though because there was a store on Pier 39 that sold Alpaca products especially shawls.
We achieved our crossdresser comfort with successful hunts on the pier and a collection of shawls over time. To some it may seem like old lady clothing but if you try them, you’ll make an exception, I am sure. They go from casual to elegant with beads and fur trim in some cases. The one I left in the cab was black with black rabbit fur trim around the edges and was my all-time favorite. I never found one like it again in all the subsequent Alpaca hunting trips we made to the store.
Even though its August at the time of this post the quote attributed to Mark Twain comes to mind. “The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco,” If you are going to be close to the ocean or any large body of water a shawl come in very handy especially with onshore wind flows. My choice was Alpaca, but you don’t have to spend that much money I have picked up several less expensive ones on sale at Macy’s. I bought one from there with sequins which is very soft for about $30.00 I think. TG Rocktober is coming up in two months and the temperature in the desert drops considerably at night sometimes so it might be a good idea to take one with you.
