The Metropolitan Grill is one of my most favorite places to dine in Seattle for a couple of reasons. The food is great, the service impeccable, the ambiance is also wonderful along wit it being one of the most popular restaurants in town. One of the biggest reasons is that they have always made me feel welcome from my first visit when the manager personally welcomed me and gave me his card so I could call him next time. Each and every time Sherri and I or, just myself go there they are very welcoming to these two Transvestite / Crossdressers. They were so busy this particular night that I didn’t bother them with taking pictures of us so I am using some from my earlier trip there like the one above.

One thing that I like about going back to a restaurant many times is that they have your name in their computer so they welcome you back and I think it influences where they seat you. I don’t think they are aware of how much I enjoy having a good view but this night our table could not have gotten any better. They gave us one of the booths you see above left just off the hostess station where we got to people watch all evening. The highlight of the night though besides the girl in the 5 inch stiletto slides was Michael the maître d who came over to our table to welcome us. He acknowledged seeing us there many times before and apologized for not coming over one of those times.

Michael must have stayed for 15 minutes so I know he found the conversation interesting but, honestly his story was much more interesting than ours. He shared his journey of moving from New York back to Malta where his family is from then back to New York. Then in his twenties venturing west to San Francisco for a few years then eventually Seattle where he fell in love and stayed. He has been with the Metropolitan Grill for almost 40 years I believe he said. I am sure Michael doesn’t know it but he made the evening for us not because he came over but, that he stayed and shared his personal story. Transvestite / Crossdressers and everybody under the “T” Umbrella for that matter all seek this kind of recognition / validation. Just a friendly conversation between three people enjoying each others company. I don’t have any idea what Michaels previous experience is with Transvestite / Crossdressers but I am confident he enjoyed this one and walks away with a positive impression of us that hopefully he will share with others.

I also think it makes a good impression on the other patrons all of which had to pass by us on their way to the table that he was spending his time with us. In my view it shows that we are of value and worth his time on a busy night. I have written in the past about observing judgmental people giving me weird looks when I enter a nice restaurant. It’s fun for me when they don’t know what is going to happen shortly but I do. Their jaws drop when the owner addresses me by name with a hug along with the staff especially the bartender. Now they feel weird like the only ones not knowing what is going on after making assumptions. It doesn’t happen every time but when it’s a place I go often sometimes they bring my Cosmopolitan without my ordering it. I guess that means I am welcome!

I added this closeup because the lighting was not great back at the hotel after dinner at Metropolitan Grill. This is one of my favorite jackets because of the details but it needs lots of light to appreciate. One of the reasons it is a favorite is because it was one of those meant to be purchases. I stumbled on it while shopping online at Dillards durring the summer when it should not have been there. They had it in my size so I jumped on it without waiting for it to go on sale later because I did not want to risk losing it. A day or so later while it was in route I decided to buy another one in a larger size and keep the one that fit the best. SOLD OUT! They never restocked it and I have never seen anything like it since even though it is a popular label so it was definitely a case of YOU SNOOZE YOU LOSE!

Excellent non-food restaurant review. I miss not traveling there since I retired 10 years ago.
