I have written some in the past about other crossdresser goodwill ambassadors and good examples of our community out with the public. It is my goal each and every time I venture out and as I have said in previous posts from what I can tell all were positive. A while back I was following a group of past and present Vanity Club ladies and friends on a Caribbean cruise. I won’t call them crossdressers because one I know is a wife and the others, I have never asked how they identify. I don’t care and I don’t think it’s important to their fellow cruisers based on the group pictures they have posted. The important thing is that they are all having fun which I am betting will leave a lasting positive impression on the non “T” people cruisers.
Regardless of how we feel about it most people in the world see us all as Transgendered because of all the publicity and news stories out there. There is no way to do a mass advertising campaign to explain the different groups under that famous umbrella because it would cost millions of dollars. Therefore, the good old tried and true word of mouth has to suffice and its more fun anyway at least for me. Once people have a genuinely positive experience with crossdresser goodwill ambassadors, they typically pass the word especially with women who seem to become supporters more than men. Maybe it’s a maternal instinct or just built in compassion but I’ll take it. That’s not to say that guys are not it’s just in my experience they tend to hold back a bit more until they are sure of the situation.
When I started my working career, it was drummed into my head that “you never get a second chance to make a good first impression” and it’s true. The first thing people are going to notice about us is what we are wearing so if it’s bizarre so are we. If its trashy we are too. If its classy maybe we are too but it’s not a given and needs more observation. This is where Crossdresser goodwill comes into play when we project a positive image. This applies not only how we are dressed but how we act or more importantly interact with the public. Judging by the pictures the VC ladies posted with their fellow cruisers they did us proud. It looks as though a good time was being had by all. It appears they checked all of the Crossdresser goodwill boxes, and I have no doubt their new friends spoke highly of us back home.
MY CROSSDRESSER GOODWILL
Last May I recounted my Crossdresser goodwill encounter the bar of the Trump Las Vegas Hotel where it was the women who approached me in conversation. The rewarding thing for me was how the conversation moved away from crossdressing to other topics of general interest. Just an exchange of thoughts and ideas between fellow travelers socializing at the bar.
I was back in Las Vegas again in June this time at the VDARA Hotel in June with another Crossdresser goodwill experience I detailed in my CROSSDRESSING VDARA LAS VEGAS post. The highlight was having a woman pay my tab which was more than one drink, but you have to click on the link above for details.
This last one counts for Crossdresser goodwill in the form of making a positive first impression because I did not speak to any of the three ladies. They just sent me a glass of wine as they were leaving smiling as they passed me and I mouthed a thank you smiling back at them. I realize not everyone is as confident or crazy as some of us are but that is OK, not everyone is up to it. For those of us who are it is a very rewarding experience for sure.
As you noted, above, women seem to be much more responsive and more favorably responsive than men to crossdressers. This has been my experience as well. I understand the hesitance of men, but admit to being pleasantly surprised by the reaction of women. Why do you suppose women are so much more positive (generally) to us?
I think maternal instincts along with the desire to be nurturing.
